Jane Charles

Jane Charles attended the North Staffordshire Polytechnic to study ceramics. She became intrigued by the workings of a neighbouring glass, drawn by the immediacy of the process. After finishing her degree she went to the heart of the British glass industry – Dudley, near Stourbridge in the Midlands. It was here she took a traditional course in glass making and concentrated on making her own glass work.

In 1987 Jane established 'Jane Charles Studio Glass' in Edinburgh, though the hot work was carried out in Newcastle. She later moved her whole studio down to Newcastle, to have her cold and hot work side by side.
