John Butler

Height 33 cm

John Butler is a young maker who makes tactile thrown pots, mostly intended for use with food. He is inspired by "the energy of playing with mud and fire"

John set up his first workshop in Pembrokeshire, Wales in October 2001 after finishing a Ceramics Degree at the University of Westminster, Harrow. In August 2003 he moved to his second workshop in Somerset, with John Mackenzie. As of October 2004 he is now making at his new workshop in Brixton, London, transporting pots down to fire in a woodfired anagama kiln in Somerset.

Education

1997-8: Diploma in Foundation Studies in Art and Design (Distinction), Weymouth College, Dorset.

1998-2001: BA(Hons) Ceramics (First Class), University of Westminster, Harrow.

Employment

December 2002: Wall installation entirely covering a 37 square metre wall at the Marylebone Campus of the University of Westminster. Collaborative; with Anne Jamison, Debbie Metherell and Jonna Behrens.

January 2003, and October - December 2004: Visiting Lecturer, University of Westminter. Throwing tuition and anagama wood-firing
